JFM Lecture Series: On Japanese Syllabic System and Teaching of Pronunciation

国際交流基金マニラ事務所主催「第26回日本語教育研究交流会」

The Japan Foundation Lecture Series, 26th Session

The JF, Manila Lecture Series is in pursuit of the Japan Foundation’s objective of enhancing mutual understanding through the promotion of human exchange among those who seek professional encouragement, and further development in the field of Japanese Studies and Japanese-Language Education in the Philippines.

At the 27th session, our Nihongo Education Advisor, Mr. Toru Hoshi will give a “Summer Holiday Special Lecture” on the connection between Japanese syllabary and teaching of pronunciation. Reconsidering so-called “Gojūon” , which has usually inclined towards teaching of Hiragana and Katakana writing systems, as a “syllabic system” into which the “phonetics” and the “phonology” are integrated, he will talk on how to apply it to the teaching of Japanese sounds, rhythm, accent as well as the teaching of vocabulary, discourse etc. A powerful aid for the teaching of “syllabic system” called “Kuchigao-mark” will also be introduced.
