CSCENTRL AT KOMIKON 2007 AT UP DILIMAN ON NOVEMBER 17, 2007!!!
THE EVENT
KOMIKON 2007: 3rd Filipino Komiks Convention aims to bring together different comic book artists/groups and publishers in a venue where they could present their talents, works and services to the public and, most importantly, to aspiring comic artists. We would like to bring in different art groups and different generations of artists for a free exchange of ideas, break down stereotypes, and broaden the scope of comics – from international to local, sequential to strips, professional to amateur, and published to independent comics. We would also like to bring to people’s awareness the current state of the Philippine comics industry.
In one day, we will hold contests to encourage participation and draw in a large attendance of people. The area will be divided to hold an exhibit area, an area for contests, an area for exhibitors’ booths/tables, an area for sponsors, registration/information area.
This year, the Artists’ Den in cooperation with Groundbreakers would like to present KOMIKON 2007: The Third Filipino Komiks Convention, the first of which was held last October 22, 2006 at the same venue. This is a one-day affair to be held on November 17, 2007 at the Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman from 9am-9pm. KOMIKON 2007 intends to present the creations of Filipino artists from various genres and themes and to give tribute to the creators and their creations. The targeted audience being those whose main points of interest is comic books, animation, video games and pop culture. Aside from the actual attendees during this day, the event will be exposed to the thousands of people within the artist’s community and their supporters online and through their own discussion groups. We were able to double last year’s expected attendance and hope to expand the numbers of attendees this year as well.
THE ORGANIZATION
The Artists’ Den is founded in the year 1999 by a group of 3 artists who dreamed of starting a group that would cater to the different art groups in the Philippines with different styles of drawing and beliefs. The artists and their followers are an unattended audience here in our country but the founding members believed in everyone’s potential to draw and reach for the stars. The group meets on a weekly basis to share views and update each other on the latest developments and news. The group also has a mailing list with more than 200 subscribers where artists convene online aside from the weekly meetings. Our organization has a long-term commitment to helping other artist groups, to promote goodwill among fellow Comic Creators and promote different works and activities among appreciative audiences.

The UP Anime Manga Enthusiasts (UP AME) is the first ever recognized collegiate anime organization in the Philippines. They are also the same group behind previous successful events such as the Una kAME!, kAME Ulit! and AME Matsuri.
UP AME Fanart Contest 2007 Guidlines
Entries should be in oslo paper. Entries can be coloured, black and white, grayscale or monotone and can be of any medium. However, digitial art is not allowed. Only Anime, Manga, Games, Sentai, Comic and Jpop/Jrock characters are allowed; no original characters.
More than one character can be included in the artwork. The entry should not contain any writing except the artist’s pseudonym. Entries should be submitted in a long envelope; inclusive of a separate sheet containing the following:
Name of participant
Pseudonym
Name/s of character/s and title of where the character/s came from
(indicate under which classification, i.e. anime, games, etc.)
Picture of the character
Address, contact nos. (mobile, e-mail add)
An envelope can contain more than one entry. However, the participants must register ALL entries submitted within their envelope; otherwise it will not be counted as a participating entry
and will not be judged.
Participants will be given entry numbers upon submission of artwork. Artworks will be screened according to artwork entry.
All entries and registration paraphernalia should be submitted to the UP AME tambayan, Kubo #11 at the FC Tambayan Complex (behind the Faculty Center) or to any UP AME member starting July 25, 2007 up to Sept. 7 2007.
Entries will be judged according to the following:
Character portrayal – accuracy of the visual portrayal of the character
Originality – incorporation of the artist’s own style and idea without compromising the character
Creativity – use of medium and technique
Balance/Harmony – use of colour scheme, coordination of elements in the artwork, clean lines and presentation
Entries will be exhibited in the AME Gakuen Sai on Nov. 24, 2007. All participants are requested to be present during the event for the announcement of winners and the claiming of prizes.
All submitted entries become property of UP AME and may be scanned and used by the organization for any type of publicity in the future. Artists will be credited upon publicity of their work.
UP AME members, alumni and probies are not eligible for entry into the fan art contest.

Justice League: The New Frontier is a direct-to-video animated film adaptation of the popular DC Comics DC: The New Frontier limited series. The film will be written by Justice League writer Stan Berkowitz, with Darwyn Cooke serving as story and visual consultant. It is the second in a line of releases by Warner Bros. Animation; with the first release being Superman: Doomsday and the next release being Teen Titans: The Judas Contract.
Justice League: The New Frontier adapts Cooke’s award-winning mini-series DC: The New Frontier. Set in the 1950s, the story bridges the gap between the Golden and Silver Ages of DC Comics. The film will focus heavily on two main stars, Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) and the Martian Manhunter. However, dozens of DC characters could potentially appear, echoing the book’s huge cast. “We are going to honor as many characters as possible,“ Noveck confirms. “The decision has been made, however, that where the story calls for it, we are not going to have just a random ‘Joe Blow.‘ It will be somebody.“ Also central to the story will be Barry Allen, also known as The Flash.
Other characters confirmed to appear are Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Dick Grayson, King Faraday, Adam Strange and Carol Ferris.

Synopsis

In this spoof of reality TV shows such as The Real World and Big Brother, eight distinct (and dysfunctional) cartoon archetypes (who also spoof the archetypes you might see on a more normal reality series) are flung together and forced to put up with each other. Through various misadventures ranging from scintillating to shocking to downright strange, these eight roomies probe each others’ personalities and push each others’ buttons.
Character Guide:
Captain Hero - An overmuscled, womanizing superhero (as if you couldn’t tell from the name) who strongly resembles Superman, Captain Hero is known for his super-strength, super-drinking, and super-sex drive. He fills the role of the egotistical lothario.
Princess Clara - A naive fairy-tale princess right out of a Disney movie, Clara is prone to expressing herself in song and offending people with her ignorance. She fills the role of the sheltered rich girl.
Toot Braunstein - A chubby, washed-up “Betty Boop” wannabe, black-and-white 1920s has-been Toot is jealous of the attention her thinner, more modern counterparts get, and as a result has grown bitter and borderline suicidal. She fills the role of the angry, manipulative bitch.
Foxxy Love - A blaxploitation version of the title character from Josie and the Pussycats, Foxxy is sassy, brassy, and probably bisexual, at the least. She sure seems to have a thing for Princess Clara, and despite being provoked by Clara’s unconcious racism and general naivete, seems to consider her a good friend. She fills the role of the token angry black person.
Spanky Ham - Ripped right out of an Internet cartoon along the lines of Retarded Animal Babies & the Napster Pig, this petulant pig will do anything for a laugh… as long as it’s gross and disgusting. He fills the role of the obnoxious party animal.
Ling-Ling - Obviously inspired by the anime Pokemon, this maniacal, sometimes psychotic, Pikachu look-alike speaks in incomprehensible, pseudo-Japanese gibberish, and resents being treated as the household pet. He/she/it fills the role of the hot-headed loner.
Wooldoor Sockbat - Whatever he is, this banana-yellow analogue to modern kids’ cartoon starts like SpongeBob SquarePants can usually be found doing something strange in an attempt (usually unsuccessful) to impress his roommates. He fills the role of the attention-starved weirdo.
Xandir - A pretty-boy fantasy video-game hero who’s hardly heroic, he’s usually rambling about how he’s on “a never-ending quest” to rescue his girlfriend. In other words, he’s whipped like a pack mule. This changes somewhat after Xandir comes to terms with his sexuality in Episode 3: now he’s on a neverending quest to save his BOYfriend. Resembling an effeminate version of Legend of Zelda’s Link, he fills the role of the sensitive male who turns out to be a closeted homosexual.

This is the early work of Yoshiyuki Tomino, the creator of the legendary Gundam series. This series is the prototype for the realistic storytelling style that will follow in the super-robot genre in such series like Gundam.
Zambot 3 is most famous for the fact it is the very first anime series created by Sunrise Inc. Many elements that appeared in this series can also be seen in their greatest work Gundam. Zambot 3 offered a twist on certain long-held formulas. Up until this point, it was always considered that super robot pilots were loved by the public they protected. Zambot 3 turned this on its head when it made the heroes of the various Kami families widely hated and reviled for bringing war and misery to the people of Earth. The suffering and hardships of ordinary people in the wake of alien attack was brought out for the first time with strong anti-war elements presented in the series. The ending of the series contained tragic elements that went against the traditional formula of a satisfying ending through final victory, leaving more of a bitter-sweet feeling of senseless waste. Zambot 3 remains to this day one of the great signposts of super robot animation.
200 years ago, the Kami family came to Earth after their planet had been destroyed. Since that time, several branches of the family have split and adapted to life in Japan just like any other ordinary family. The Gaizok aliens, who aim to destroy all life in the universe become aware of the existance of the fragmented Kami descendents upon Earth and move in to destroy what they had failed to do 200 years before.
Under the guidance of the Gaizok general Killer the Butcher, Earth is attacked and three branches of the Kami family: Kami, Kamie and Kamikita must unite with their advanced technology to defend their adopted planet. Their starship, King Biaru is revived as a base of operations for their greatest weapon, the combining robot Zambot 3. Piloted by Kappei, Uchuta and Keiko, the interstellar family takes the fight to the evil Gaizok in order to defend Earth.

aira Kappeita, or Capeta, was a 4th grader boy. He had lost his mother when he had been very little. Although he pretended to be tough in front of his father, actually he felt lonely. One day, his father brought junk parts home from his workplace and made a racing cart. Soon, they went to a circuit to drive the cart. However, Capeta found that its frame was bent and it could hardly run straight. But, with his technique he managed the cart. Furthermore, he followed soon after the fast cart and he could nearly leave it behind. The driver in the cart was Minamoto Naomoi, the champion of the East Japan Junior Cart. Looking at their chase, Naomi’s mother, Minamoto Nanako, advised Capeta to take part in the official race.

JETMAN
Choujin Sentai Jetman (Chojin Sentai Jettoman?), translated into English as Birdman Squadron Jetman, was the fifteenth entry of the Super Sentai television series. Produced by Toei Company and Bandai, the series aired on TV Asahi on February 15, 1991 to February 21, 1992, with a total of 51 episodes. With its well-developed storylines and character development, it is regarded by many fans to be the best series of the Super Sentai genre, and by some to be the pinnacle of
tokusatsu. This sentai is a homage to Science Ninja Team Gatchaman.
This series takes place sometime during the 1990s (only addressed as “199X”) on the Earth Ship, the command center of an international defense agency called Sky Force. It is the guardian of peace on Earth. In the ship, scientists have developed “Birdonic Waves”, a newly developed technology which gives the subject superhuman abilities. Experiments (called “J-Project”) were successful. Aya Odagiri, the director of the project, chose five elite Sky Force officials from Earth to use this technology. Ryuu Tendou, one of the Sky Force officers, was successfully exposed to the Birdonic waves, making him Jetman Number 1, the Red Hawk.
However, the Earth Ship is suddenly attacked by the Vyram, an evil space organization. They successfully destroy the ship, and the remaining Birdonic waves (for the four other officials) become scattered across the Earth. Four civilians are hit by these waves. Odagiri and Tendou successfully escape the ship and begin searching on earth for the four remaining Jetmen in order to stop the Vyram’s plans of conquering our dimension.
THE JETMEN:
Ryuu Tendou (Tendo Ryu?) / Red Hawk (Reddo Hoku)-
He was originally a Sky Forcer codenamed “W6” and leader of the Jetman. Being the only official to become a Jetman, his policy is to be always professional and never let feelings affect himself in
battle, which is the primary reason of why he and Gai fought in many episodes like Ken and Joe in Gatchaman. This comes to a conflict when he discovers that his beloved Rie had become the Vyram officer Maria, which later caused Gai’s inner sense of justice to awaken during the time he fantasized he was still with Rie. He does not drink alcohol but loves hot milk without sugar. He often wears Red Gold’s Gym gloves.
Kaori Rokumeikan (Rokumeikan Kaori?) / White Swan (Howaito Suwan?)-
She is the heiress of the Rokumeikan Enterprises empire. She is taken care of by her butler, Jiiya, since her parents live in New York. She joined the Jetman to escape the boredom of her heiress life. She is good at Kendo and best shot in Jetman, Kaori learned in battle and in the middle of a love triangle with Ryuu and Gai what a spoiled rich girl she was and what the really important things were. Raita also had feelings for her. She does sometimes use her wealth to help the team like when she used a lot of diamonds to try and snap Ako from the curse of the monster Bloody Diamond.
Ako Hayasaka (Hayasaka Ako?) / Blue Swallow (Buru Suwaro?) -
A senior at Miharakita High School. A bright and cheery girl who wants to marry a rich man. She called Choukan Odagiri “Granny”. She first thought of Jetman as a part time job paying ¥1500 (roughly $12.89) an hour, but her first battle awakened her sense of justice and made her
realize that she must fight as a warrior (for free, no questions asked). She is best friends with her classmate, Kyouko.
Raita Ooishi (Oishi Raita?) / Yellow Owl (Iero Oru?) -
A nature loving farmer who enjoys vegetables and hates the Vyram for their destruction of nature. He is good at cooking. He looks after Kaori and has feelings for her. The only member who wears eyeglasses and only out-of-shape member in Jetman. (This is the result of a
recurring theme in the Sentai genre of the archetypal overweight yet physically strong male yellow member.) He was raised by his grandmother, Kiyo Ooishi, because Raita’s parents were busy. As Yellow Owl, specializes in raw strength techniques like head-butts, body blows, throwing techniques, and sumo-based attacks. He is also able to hurl boulders.
Gai Yuuki (Yuki Gai?) / Black Condor (Burakku Kondoru?) -
A loner who hates being ordered around. He loves fighting but is really a nice guy. Initially clashed with Ryuu but eventually became friends. His interests include motorcycle, saxophone, gambling and womanizing. He loves Kaori, and often tries to flirt with her, without results, which ends up on him suffering from the frustration of his unanswered feelings. When she finally accepts him, they have frequent problems on their relationship as both are too different. He loves the Macallan, Scotch whisky. He hates men and natto. Gai’s fighting style is a street fighting and martial arts mix: his combat skills match Ryuu’s, though he is the dirty type, as sometimes grabs his foe in the crotch to perform an overhead lift and toss. His character appears to be largely based on Gatchaman’s Joe Asakura.

In the near future, a revolutionary new psychotherapy treatment called PT has been invented. Through a device called the “DC Mini” it is able to act as a “dream detective” to enter into people’s dreams and explore their unconscious thoughts. Before the government can pass a bill authorizing the use of such advanced psychiatric technology, one of the prototypes is stolen, sending the research facility into an uproar. In the wrong hands, the potential misuse of the device could be devastating, allowing the user to completely annihilate a dreamer’s personality while they are asleep. Renowned scientist, Dr. Atsuko Chiba, enters the dream world under her exotic alter-ego, code name “PAPRIKA,“ in an attempt to discover who is behind the plot to undermine the new invention.
